Saturday, March 9th, Glendale, Arizona – Hundreds of middle school students from throughout the State of Arizona went head to head in a Jeopardy-style academic competition. The regional Arizona Middle School Science Bowl was held on the ASU West Campus. Many of the top middle school students from across the state competed in what has become known as one of the most prestigious academic tournaments in science and math.
Teams met up to compete for the coveted first place ticket to the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. Thirty-one teams of four students participated in the competition. It was a full day of several tournaments, including a Qualification Round, Round Robin tournament and then finally Double Elimination. In the end, just three teams were left – BASIS Flagstaff, BASIS Tucson and BASIS Scottsdale. Although BASIS Scottsdale Team #1 managed to take the lead in the end, all three teams ended their day proudly in an awards ceremony.
The preparations now begin for the winning BASIS Scottsdale team as they prepare to take on the top teams from throughout the US at the National Science Bowl® for Middle School Students. That event is scheduled to be held April 25th – 29th in Washington, D.C.
